🌟 Author Visit: A Fantastic Day with Stuart Reid! 📚✨

Derrychrin PS had a wonderfully exciting day as we welcomed children’s author Stuart Reid to our school for a fun-filled programme of creative writing workshops!

From the moment Stuart arrived, our pupils were captivated by his energy, humour and passion for reading. The children loved hearing about his journey as an author — from his first book Giant Generator, to becoming a 14‑year published author, and even reaching 3 million listeners on TalkSport at one point in his career! His latest book, Soggy Saturday Sandwich, was a big hit with pupils too.

Stuart’s motto, “Reading Rocks!”, quickly became a favourite line throughout the day along with many giggles, creativity … and Snot Zombies! Mentions of snot, poop, and his popular “snot zombies” had the children in stitches — and completely hooked on storytelling!

The reading workshop were full of laughter as Stuart shared the wonderfully silly and imaginative ideas behind his stories. Stuart finished the reading workshop with an inspiring reminder for all pupils: “Do what makes you happy in your heart, and always believe in your dreams.” A powerful message that we hope stays with them for years to come.

🎬 Making Movies in Your Mind

Stuart also guided pupils through how to build imaginative stories using:

• Setting

• Characters

• Plot

• and choosing the right genre

His motto “Making movies in your mind” helped pupils understand how reading and writing create vivid worlds inside their imaginations.

📅 See Stuart Again!

For parents and children who would like to hear more from Stuart Reid, he will be appearing at the Seamus Heaney HomePlace this Saturday, 14th March.
